Development of rural areas in developing and emerging countries is crucial to overall economic development in these nations because the majority of poor people still live in rural regions. At the same time, rural areas offer enormous potential that often goes unused. If rural development is to be successful, it is essential to adopt an overarching planning approach that focuses on the rural population and their potentials and goals. This overall plan must comprise economic, social, environmental and institutional support strategies.
This competition is therefore aimed at agricultural enterprises, their suppliers and processing plants, and also companies from other sectors that want to become involved in rural development.
