Green City – Urban environmental protection

A large portion of the people in developing and emerging countries live in cities. Urban infrastructure – from water and energy supply to sewage and waste removal and transport systems – is often overwhelmed by the rapid growth of congested conurbations. The high demand for land and overexploitation of resources exacerbates the problem.

Projects promoting environmental protection in urban areas can help alleviate these issues. This competition is therefore aimed at enterprises that want to implement projects focusing, for example, on sustainable spatial and urban planning, developing efficient passenger and goods transport systems, rehabilitating and greening decommissioned industrial areas, promoting environmental management systems and efficient waste management, and reducing air or noise pollution, or are planning other green city projects.
